Several types of cargo oil pumps are used on oil tankers. Which one is the best choice should be analyzed based on the specific situation. Different requirements for different oil tankers should be considered comprehensively from the overall situation of the entire ship, and the advantages and disadvantages of various cargo oil pumps should be compared. The basic principles for selecting cargo oil pumps are to maximize their advantages, overcome their disadvantages, or limit their disadvantages to a lower level.
Specifically, we can generally start from the following aspects:
1) Safety: As the cargo transported by oil tankers is liquid oil, ensuring operational safety is extremely important for oil tankers. When selecting a cargo pump, safety must also be considered first. From a safety perspective, the steam direct acting reciprocating cargo oil pump z is good, and the turbine centrifugal pump is also relatively safe. However, steam turbines often use superheated steam, so it is also necessary to install the turbine and centrifugal pump compartment.
2) Economy: Economy is an important indicator to measure the level of shipbuilding, and it must also be given sufficient attention when selecting cargo pumps. For example, for large oil tankers with a capacity of more than 50000 tons, it is not advisable to choose a steam direct acting reciprocating cargo pump, as its displacement cannot keep up with demand, resulting in increased oil unloading time, increased port dwell time, and poor economic performance. Therefore, it is better to choose a centrifugal cargo pump with a large displacement. On the contrary, for medium and small oil tankers, the advantages of selecting steam direct acting reciprocating cargo pumps are more prominent, while selecting steam turbine centrifugal pumps is unnecessary because of its increased steam consumption and boiler capacity, resulting in waste.
For another example, selecting a cargo pump based on the variety of oil carried can also have a significant impact on the economy of oil tankers. Transportation of crude oil tankers generally requires heating, and a boiler with sufficient capacity must be provided to supply steam to the heating pipe system in the oil tank. Therefore, selecting a steam direct acting reciprocating cargo pump or selecting a steam turbine centrifugal pump is more economical and advantageous. On the contrary, the product oil carried is generally not heated or slightly heated, especially if the tonnage of the oil tanker is small and the capacity of the steam boiler itself is not large, so it is more economical to choose an electric centrifugal pump. However, safety issues can be solved by using explosion-proof motors or installing the motor in a compartment with the centrifugal pump.
Secondly, if possible, selecting cargo pumps that are small in size and light in weight can also improve their economy.
3) Convenient and simple operation, management, and maintenance are issues that should be fully noted when selecting a cargo pump. Judging from the above types of cargo pumps, the steam direct acting reciprocating cargo pump is relatively simple in structure and principle, and is relatively easy to operate and manage. Some problems can be solved by management personnel, but the maintenance workload is usually larger than the maintenance workload of steam turbine centrifugal pumps and electric centrifugal pumps. Although the structure of steam turbine centrifugal pump is relatively complex, and most repairs need to be carried out in the factory, the maintenance workload is relatively small and the management is not too complex.
